NCAA FOOTBALL
Week 2 previews/predictions
By: Ryan Quigley @RyanQuigley90
Week one had its fair share of fun and upsets! Coach Prime fit right in on the main stage, Jim Harbaugh was not on the sidelines but still gave us the gem of Wefense, FSU could be a serious problem and a bunch of other fun overreactions. We now move on to Week 2, here are a few games that I will be keeping an eye on.
Illinois vs. Kansas, Friday @ 7:30 EST on ESPN2
The Jayhawks are hosting Bret Bielema and the Fighting Illini, love a fun Friday night matchup. Kansas is favored by 3.5 in this one and I think they have something to prove after a narrow win over Toledo. A lot of great talent to replace on defense but I think it may be too much to handle, Kansas put up 500+ yards of total offense in their tune up game against Missouri State which should make for a fun battle on the gridiron.
Notre Dame vs. NC State, Saturday @ 12:00 EST on ABC
Sam Hartman has looked great so far, as expected of course. Notre Dame started the season in Dublin, Ireland against Navy and at home against Coach Eddie George and Tennessee St. Still not sure how good this Notre Dame team can be but I am sure Hartman wants to get revenge for last seasons loss to NC State while with Wake Forest. Notre Dame is favored by 7.5 and are 2-0 against the spread this season, good teams win, great teams cover. I got ND in this one.
Nebraska vs. Colorado, Saturday @ 12:00 EST on Fox
Coach Prime made quite the statement Week 1, fellow new head coach Matt Rhule had a competitive game against Minnesota but came up just short. Still not sure what to make of either program just yet but I will be along for the ride, I am going with Colorado in this one.
Texas A&M vs. Miami (FL) Saturday @ 3:30 EST on ABC
The Aggies are favored on the road, I like the Miami secondary and I am excited to see the matchup against team that put up 52 points last week. Give me A&M in a close one.
Iowa vs. Iowa State, Saturday @ 3:30 EST on Fox
I love this chaotic game between in state rivals, both teams are heavy on defense with still a lot to prove on offense. I think Cade McNamara plays well enough to edge out the Cyclones.
Ole Miss vs. Tulane, Saturday @ 3:30 EST on ESPN2
An interesting matchup between a competitive SEC team and a smaller program team that shocked the world last season, I think Kiffin & Co. get the win but I would love to see another upset from the Green Wave.
Texas vs. Alabama, Saturday @ 7:00 EST on ESPN
The big game of the week, Alabama will be hosting Texas at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Both teams have a lot of hype around them and Coach Saban and Coach Sarkisian know each other very well, I wish I could just sit back and enjoy this one without making an assumption or prediction. Whatever, ROLL TIDE ROLL.
Oregon vs. Texas Tech, Saturday @ 7:00 EST on Fox
Everything is bigger in Texas, this matchup with the Ducks and the Red Raiders will be at AT&T stadium. Should make for a fun atmosphere that will hopefully have plenty of fireworks on offense, Oregon is favored by 6.5 and that is who I will be going with.
Stanford vs. USC, Saturday @ 10:30 EST on Fox
The Matchup itself doesn’t scream Sicko game but I am happy to report I will be one of the sickos trying to tough it out on the couch after likely 14 hours of college football viewing. ZOA Energy, hear my prayer. Also, USC is nearly 30-point favorites. Tough to go against that.
